Simplified Summary
this office handles cases in the court to protect public safety
The Grundy County Prosecutors Office is located in the old Grundy County Jail directly north of the Courthouse at 115 E 8th Street, Trenton, MO. This office handles the prosecution of all felony and misdemeanor violations of the state law, which are defined by Missouri statutes. In addition, the Grundy County Prosecutors Office handles all conservation, all county violations, and state traffic violations.
Please be aware this office only handles the state traffic ticket’s, which will have an alleged Missouri Revised State violation(s) (RSMo). However, if the Trenton Police Department wrote the ticket pursuant to an alleged ordinance violation (ORD.) you will need to contact the Municipal Prosecutor, Kenton Kinney, at trentonmoprosecutor@murphykinney.com
By Statute the Grundy County Prosecutors Office is also able to help collect money owed to residents and businesses at no cost. For example, if an individual writes a bad check or provides a fraudulent debit/credit card transaction for anything in Grundy County, we are able to write a letter to collect those funds. If the individual does not make the business or resident whole, this office has the authority to then file criminal charges to collect the money. You will need to bring the returned item to our office to begin the procedure and fill out a form in our office.
Please also be aware that our office does not handle child support cases and you will need to contact a different office. That office is ran by an Assistant Prosecution Attorney that handles child support issues and/or cases at 660-265-3333.
The Grundy County Prosecutors Office is not a crime reporting agency and a report must first be reported with the appropriate law enforcement agency. Once you make a report with law enforcement, that report will then be forwarded to us for considerations of possible criminal charges. If you believe a crime has occurred within the city limits of Trenton, the Trenton Police Department would have jurisdiction to take the report and if you believe a crime occurred in Grundy County, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department would have jurisdiction to take a report. If you believe an emergency is occurring call 911.
